Bearings are essential components in the rotating parts of virtually all machines such as automobiles, electric motors, diesel engines, industrial machinery and machine tools etc. Being critical components, these determine performance of the machine as a whole. Broadly, these can be grouped as ball bearings and roller bearings each sub-grouped as Radial as well as thrust-bearings. Automobile industry is the major user of bearings. Since a large number of leading international automobile manufacturers have already started manufacturing or are in the process of entering the Indian market, the demand for bearings is likely to increase in the near future.

Bearings find applications in diversified uses ranging from an electric fan to space rocket and hence the product - range is quite large and diversified. The Indian bearing industry has already geared up to meet most of the demand for general purpose bearings. Special purpose bearings are still being imported and as such there is a considerable scope for development of bearings of smaller size, higher performance and lighter weight with improved performance in harsh operative conditions like higher temperatures / low temperatures etc.
